Keep It Local

Last fall I had the pleasure of designing flowers for a wedding in my hometown.  The family was local, the venue was local, the food was catered local and of course the flowers were local. Not only were they designed local, a good amount of them were purchased from a local flower farm. This was important to my couple and I thought it spoke volumes as to their support for the community. It was a great experience working with my neighbors and in the end we all won. I think now more then ever we need to support our local communities and the small businesses in them. It is truly neighbor helping neighbor that makes our towns such wonderful, unique places to live.  See more pictures here!

Over the Rainbow

I have always loved rainbows. So when a dear cousin of mine asked me to help bring her rainbow wedding vision alive in flowers I was absolutely delighted. The planning stared over a year in advance. During a lovely afternoon visit, we mapped our our plan and I got to work. Each bridesmaid bouquet and matching groomsmen was a different color of the rainbow! As beautiful as I knew it would be, having each bouquet a different color provided a challenge. There were around 30 different flowers that needed to be ordered! Organization was critical. But all said and done, it all went off without a hitch, well the flower portion anyways. Mother nature had her own wedding surprise for the couple. She blessed them with rain, and not just a sprinkle. The epic downpour had myself and my husband trapped in our SUV waiting it out. Thankfully it passed quickly. Besides, without the rain you can't have a rainbow! Let us know what you think of the rainbow wedding. Click here to view more pictures from the rainbow wedding.

Every Bride Needs a Crown

I am absolutely in love with flower crowns. I have been seeing them around for a few years now but the trend is getting BIG! I predict in 2016 flower crowns are something many brides will be asking for. Crowns are the perfect wedding day accessory. They come in all shapes and styles. You can have a few flowers on one side, a wispy halo of dainty flowers or you can go big and bold. Your crown can be customized to your wildest dreams. One thing is for sure, they are always a show stopper! My favorite are the big, messy, Bohemian styles. What are yours?

Do you need an amazing flower crown? Blooming Envy would love to design one for your wedding, contact us today.

Beauty in Succulents and Herbs

Trending for weddings right now, and I am in love with myself, are succulent/herb plant centerpieces. Not only do you get beautiful table decor but also awesome favors for your guests. And they are "green"! Literally and the eco kind. I am sure we will be seeing a lot of these "recyclable" flowers around for some time to come and why not? They can be interpreted into almost any design and the natural green is a great neutral color to match with any design scheme. Are you jumping on this trend wagon?

2013 Spring Color Reports, Yes Please.

OK, so me and winter are not the best of friends. Granted I was born and raised here in WI and I don't see moving anytime soon. I have also been know to bundle myself up on occasion and try to make the best of what mother nature has to offer. Regardless, I consider myself a fairly topical person. I prefer the warm weather and when it turns cold outside I can't help but think about the spring, the warmth of the sun, the new growth of the flowers and trees and of course the fun new color trends in fashion industry. Although I am not a fashionista, these color have a huge influence on wedding trends and thus trickle down to us floral designers.

Where does one look for trending colors? Pantone is the go to source for such answers. Who is Pantone you may ask? Well Pantone began as a commercial printing company in the 1950s. The company is best known for its Pantone Matching System (PMS), a proprietary color space used in a variety of industries, primarily printing, though sometimes in the manufacture of colored paint, fabric, and plastics. The idea behind the PMS is to allow designers to "color match" specific colors when a design enters production stage.

Are you planning a spring wedding? Do you need some design inspirations? Or are you just curious what colors will be big in spring, check out this awesome video by Pantone. What is your favorite color?

Fishing Lures and Flowers?

6/6/2012

So the other day, my husband, who by the way is a devoted fisherman, says to me,

"Would you ever use a spinner in a boutonniere?"

After I finished laughing at him and actually thought about what he said, I started to like the idea. For those of you who are unfamiliar with fishing, a spinner is a type of fishing lure, like the one shown on the left. I can honestly say that fishing lures are one item I have never been asked to use, but my husbands question makes me wonder if anyone would actually want a fishing lure(s) accenting their flowers. Of course I understand this idea is not for everyone, and even some grooms-to-be may have a difficult time convincing the bride-to-be or vise versa. But I could see this idea as a unique way to add your personal touch to your wedding flowers. It's really not that far of a stretch from all the other items used to add "bling" to flowers. Fishing lures come in so many colors you would most likely find one to coordinate. And if added to the boutonnieres the men would have a keepsake they may actually use! OK, so maybe my husband on to something?

So I am asking for your help, please take a second and vote in my poll. Let me know if you like the idea of fishing lures and flowers.

If you are anything like me you love to read your horoscope. Not so much because you believe anything written but its fun to see how accurate (or not) they may be. I came across this interesting article while browsing the web that uses the zodiac to guide you in your wedding flower decision process. Take a look and let me know what you think.

But this is where you are wrong. Tangerine Tango in anything but that traditional orange we are all use to.
