Feature Flower for December - Brunia Berries

12/2/2015

One flower I have been using over and over again in my designs is Brunia Berries. Not only do they add that touch of grey that is all so hot right now, they provide some excitement and whimsy within the designs. The neutral grey color coordinates well with all flowers. Besides that they are hardy, dry well and provide a unique texture.

Botanical Name: Brunia Albiflora (BROO-nee-ah al-bih-FLOOR-ah)

Brunia is native to South Africa, but is also commercially grown in California, Australia and New Zealand. There are several different varieties of brunia that are sold as a cut flower and colors can range from silver to green or red.  The most common variety you see in floral designs is Brunia Nodiflora which has the very modern, chic, silver/ grey color. They are available most of the year with peak availability being June - December.

Interesting Fact - Brunia Berries are not actually berries but ball shaped flowers.

What do you think of Brunia Berries? Leave your comments below.

We Give Thanks

With our last wedding for 2015 in the books we look forward to the holidays. I can honestly say I am excited and ready to start celebrating. Thanksgiving will be filled with delicious food, family, and hunting. For all this and more, I give thanks. Since the food is bought, the invites are out, and my husband and our two sons handle the hunting, I guess that only leaves one thing for me to do, decorate! Good thing it's kinda my specialty. Hope you enjoy this Thanksgiving inspiration board. We would love to see what you create, post your photos on our Blooming Envy Facebook Page.

Over the Rainbow

I have always loved rainbows. So when a dear cousin of mine asked me to help bring her rainbow wedding vision alive in flowers I was absolutely delighted. The planning stared over a year in advance. During a lovely afternoon visit, we mapped our our plan and I got to work. Each bridesmaid bouquet and matching groomsmen was a different color of the rainbow! As beautiful as I knew it would be, having each bouquet a different color provided a challenge. There were around 30 different flowers that needed to be ordered! Organization was critical. But all said and done, it all went off without a hitch, well the flower portion anyways. Mother nature had her own wedding surprise for the couple. She blessed them with rain, and not just a sprinkle. The epic downpour had myself and my husband trapped in our SUV waiting it out. Thankfully it passed quickly. Besides, without the rain you can't have a rainbow! Let us know what you think of the rainbow wedding. Click here to view more pictures from the rainbow wedding.

Every Bride Needs a Crown

I am absolutely in love with flower crowns. I have been seeing them around for a few years now but the trend is getting BIG! I predict in 2016 flower crowns are something many brides will be asking for. Crowns are the perfect wedding day accessory. They come in all shapes and styles. You can have a few flowers on one side, a wispy halo of dainty flowers or you can go big and bold. Your crown can be customized to your wildest dreams. One thing is for sure, they are always a show stopper! My favorite are the big, messy, Bohemian styles. What are yours?

Do you need an amazing flower crown? Blooming Envy would love to design one for your wedding, contact us today.

As much as I love my job it is still nice to take a break and unwind. This weekend I took a few hours and went hiking. The weather was gorgeous and I found myself at the top of Mosquito Hill in New London. I haven't been there since I was a kid. The view was amazing and my pictures don't do justice to the glorious fall colors. It was the perfect escape. What did you do last weekend? What did the colors look like in your area?

Charm From the Past

We recently had the opportunity to work at a very charming local venue in Waupaca, the Apple Tree Lane Bed & Breakfast. This 1880's Victorian farm house sits along the Crystal River and instantly takes you away from the stresses of life. For an early fall wedding the weather this particular day felt more like summer. The bride was absolutely stunning and everyone I spoke with was in high spirits. After a short walk along a rustic trail we had lined with vibrant fall color flowers, you found yourself along side the river where the ceremony would take place. The reception was also held on the grounds, in a cooled tent, with a catered dinner. Enjoying gems like this is one of the many reasons I love my work.

Click for more information on the Apple Tree Lane Bed & Breakfast or to see more of our photos here and some Distinction Photo pictures here. Comment below if you would get married here or if you have ever visited the Apple Tree Lane Bed & Breakfast.

Fabulous Fall

So...it's the first day of fall. I have to say I am sad to see summer go. There is the hustle and bustle of wedding season mixed with all that great summer fun. When I'm not working I enjoy camping, hiking and fishing with my family. Summer for me is just a wonderful whirlwind of activities. But fall has its perks too. With the change of the season we get the wonderful colors and smells of nature, comfy sweaters and apples! Who doesn't love a fresh apple pie or some warm apple cider. As we welcome fall and all its glory make sure to take time and enjoy it!  We would love to hear why you love fall, post your comments below.

Remember that something we were up to? Well....here it is! Ta da! Our newest rental item. Our antique distressed chalkboard door. It actually went easier than I had expected. I started with a reclaimed antique door which I found at the Habitat for Humanity Restore. It was the perfect piece for this project. With a little bit of paint, some sandpaper and some fancy chalkboard paint, I created this awesome little gem. I used it last weekend at the bridal show for my advertising. It would be great for an event to welcome guests, give directions, use as a seating chart, or as a menu board, The options are endless. Plus it is two sided! And YES, it is now available for rent. Call 715-412-1633 or email info@bloomingenvy.com for more info.

We're Up To Something!

So I wanted to share with all of you a project I am working on. Up until yesterday it was just an idea I had been playing around with in my head. But yesterday I bit the bullet and went searching for the needed treasures to complete my vision. My husband, myself and our big van headed to the Habitat for Humanity Restore. Well, it took more than one Restore to find the perfect piece but I was super happy when we did. It is beautiful! Absolutely stunning! And this is before I even get to work my magic. Now you might be asking -What are we going to do with that? What's that going to be? Well that you will have to wait to find out. Not long...just til next week. I welcome your guesses in the mean time.
